I was just thinking of a new system for running each player's turn. Each turn has 5 points to "spend". a minor action uses 1 point and a move action or standard action uses 2 points. an action point renews three points and a weapon with a speed enhancement adds one point to the total. Just a thought...

I oppose this strongly. This variant would make combat both much faster and much more deadly.
Things this would allow...
Two attack powers in one turn.
Four attack powers in one turn by spending an action point.
Five minor actions (allowing you to shift five times, moving fairly freely through a battle zone <= Inaccurate. I forgot that shifting is a move action, but five minor actions a turn is still rather excessive).
Eight minor actions by spending an action point (more than a little silly).
But the real reason I don't like it? It discourages movement in combat; you hit twice as hard by standing still, taking two standard actions and no move. One of the things I love about 4e is that you don't have full-round-attacks any more, which means that combatants move, shift, and maneuver much more freely without sacrificing their damage output. This is, to my mind, one of the THE biggest improvements in the new system, and this variation would kill it.
