Ok. So, this Saturday marks the official opening of my game. Character generation is over, we made them about three weeks ago. This game is probably going to be a bi-monthly event, maybe just once a month. These are my players:

Me - DM
Kerry (my wife) - Elf Ranger (archer)
James - Dragonborn Paladin
Alicia - Half-Elf Star Warlock
Ron - Eladrin Rogue
Robin - Tiefling Wizard, multiclass feat Warlock
Steve - Dwarf Cleric
Eric - Eladrin Wizard

Yeah, that's eight of us. I got the first session planned and some ideas for session two and an overall layout and plan.

Well, from one DM to Another....

If this is your first 4th game , I have some recommendations, especially if you are doing bi-monthly to monthly game sessions:

1: Give the players something to do in-between sessions. I have lost so many once a month sessions to people getting bored or just plain forgetting about the game. I highly advise having each session representing maybe a couple of months( or weeks) of work in culminating the story.

2:Combat is where DND 4.0 really shines. Even if it is a post by email account, having a small jpg of the map and enemies positions being emailed around can be a great way to do combat in-between sessions or during a chat session or whatev. If this is going to be an IRL game, then you get the awesome treatment as a DM because you can reeallly throw anything you want at the players and be amazed as they crawl out still kickin and all the stronger for it.

3:DND's loot system is spot on. I am usually a DM that creates all my loot from scratch and does the same for my mobs. Use of the current 4.0 system is highly recommended and even slightly cinematic in value. Magic at level 1! who had thought!
