View Full Version : 4e Campaigns?

Seeing as discussion about 4e is going full force, and many people seem to have come across the actual books, I'm somewhat curious how long it will be before someone starts trying to set up a campaign, or at least a few adventures to test the material out. I'm actually surprised someone hasn't already....

I will be running games on the online toolset that WotC has. I will not run PbP games except for freeform style. I believe that players will be able to use the toolset for free, they just will not have access to the character creator tools and all that.

I do hope that's the case. Getting a decent group might be hard otherwise. At least at first.

I would imagine we will have some 4e PbP games on here sooner rather than later, but it will take a little time for people to acquire and read through the material.

Personally, I was hoping to play in a few games before I tried to run one. While I do have a couple of small side games starting up in 4E, they really are more like stress tests than actual games, and contain little RP since they are focused on letting us all hammer at the mechanics.

'Stress tests' are pretty much all I'm looking for now, anyway. Wouldn't want to start a proper campaign without working out the mechanics properly, first. Since no one else has put up a short campaign, or even just series of episodic quests soon, I may decide to run something very simple myself. Like you, though, I'd prefer to be a player first. ...May as well just announce it actually:
If there are any players interested in running a few missions in 4e,
please say so. Note that if GMing is left to me, then story will be mostly optional - this is just to get a feeler for the rules, and continuity may be ignored somewhat. Anyone interested?

Definitely interested. One thing I have noticed though, you will NEED to play either here in the chat, live, or using a online tabletop like screen monkey or fantasy grounds. The abilities of the creatures and players tend to require too much shuffling about and too many cross actions to make it realistically playable PbP. This is something you will find for yourself within the first day or two of trying it. . .it just doesn't work.

Part of why I wanted to run tests - I had a feeling that might be the case. Guess it's time to look for a decent system then.... If only fantasy grounds was free...sigh

Ok. Jeez. I'll run a noob D&D game for 4th edition :) on one condition; you have a players guide for it. If you are interested in playing you have to at least have that.

If needs be feel free to use the chat room here, I am sure others would join in on any adhoc 4e "stress test"

I'll definetly hop into the chat for this. I have the books on preorder. Everyone knows i love the chat room :P
(I'm all for just hammering on the mechanics. :P)

I could do that too.

There are a number of free online table tops you could use as well, though I think chat should workout just fine. Nbos.com has a screenmonkey lite which has tokens, map sharing, chat, dice, etc. A number of others have something similar as well, though of the free ones, I'd say screen monkey is the easiest/best to use.

Unless something changed after I left, it didn't go at all. No one was around at the time.

Is anyone still up for trying a 4e campaign? I have been hacking around with creating a world for a 4e campaign. Am not tremendously experinced in 4e but have been GMing for over 2 decades.
I do agree that running such a game requires some sort of tabletop. Has anyone come up with a solution for that on this site?

Is this topic dead or just slow?

I am nearly ready to start a 4th edition game on site but have logistical problems.
My campaign map is cut into 12 600x600 images. The album only supprots 10 images per account. In addition, due to nature of 4e, I would have to post and update a battlemap during combats. I might also wish to post a few city maps as well. Again, the 10 photo limit screws this up royally. Any way I can get around this?

One thought might to be to post your maps on a website rather than on here. Bit clunky in that players would have to follow a link rather than have it under their noses, but at least you would not be limited to how much you can have on display.
