Hi, I'm planning on running a D20 Modern game that'll make use of the D20 Past supplement and will be set in my own campaign setting.

General background is as follows;

The game is set 3 years after the Great Steam War ended due to a necromatic blast ripping through a country formerly known as the Holy Artian Empire and turning it into a zombie infested wasteland called the Artian Deadlands. The Ruskkie Collective which lies to the north of Artia quickly reoccupied the former frontlines and built up a very big and very long wall in response to the creation of the Deadlands. The Unified Kingdom of Garrack (being island based) decided to grab some of the former Artian coastline whilst the Genci Republic to the east nestled in the Dragonspine Mountians raided the ruins.

A cold war soon emerged between the three nations, though they're all weary of another war but they're interested in the various secert projects and other stuff that the Artians never got to finish. However aside from the horde of zombies now wondering around, theres also the growing threat of bandits and airpirates basing themselves in the Deadlands as well as settlers trying to reclaim the ruins.

But there is some hope for the Deadlands in the form of the undermanned and underfunded Serbersk Outriders who patrol the Deadlands and serve as makeshift sheriffs. You've just been recruited into the Outriders...

Might be interested depending on rules access. Would I need to buy anything?

The D20 Modern rulebook is a must, and also the D20 Past supplement if you can get your hands on it.

If you have the D20 Past book then its the Shadow Stalkers section you'll be needing along with the equipment thats pre-1920...though I will be allowing use of the Flying Ace prestige class.

The setting has a generally tech level of around the First World War period, I will also be allowing use of equipment from the Player's Handbook as, I feel, the equipment in D20 Past is a little limited.

Are we talking Play by post or chat? If chat I am interested, I have d20 Modern but not past. I may be able to get it though.

Play-by-post I'm afraid, its easier for me as least that since I do not know (despite being unemployed) whether or I have time for a chat based one.

Right guys, I'm giving this another week to see if anyone else signs up before deciding whether or not to run it.

There is no need to purchase the books in order to learn the system really.

Everything you need can be found within the Modern System Reference Document (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/msrd) that Wizards has released as OGL material. What that basically gives you is the bare-bones mechanics without the fluff. It doesn't tell you about the d20 Past stuff, but I'm sure Stormie could give you the necessary info on that front.

The game is pretty much D&D 3.5e updated for the Modern world, and very easy to pick up and play if you are familiar with the fantasy version.

Thanks Skurvy, that link will be a great help.

D20 Past isn't that important as I'll post what we'll need it from it, having the book would make things easier but its not a major problem so don't worry about it.

This sounds like something I might be interested in... I have all the required RPG material (d20 Modern & Past, and so much more), but I would like to know what my character's options as far as Role-Playing go (factions, allegiances, background, contacts).

I think this game idea died before it ever got off the ground .. which means that someone will have to step up to the mark for d20Modern at some point.

Actually I might run it at some point, but I'm still thinking over the setting.
