Kurogo's Helmet of Utter Invincibility
The shade Artificer blinked curiously at the fellow who stood defiantly before him, sword brandished with a grand gesture in the knight's hold. One would normally expect such boastful behavior from a paladin, but normally the knight-in-shining-armor was at least wearing armor...this fellow just had his sword, a helmet, and a cocky grin.
"Y'know, I might've put too much a kick in that one." The Artificer observed to his construct companion, which nodded in silent agreement.
A slender, cheek-guarded helmet wrought of finely hewn crystal, weighing less than a pound and glimmering brightly in any light greater than a slight shade. Despite its fragile appearance it is surprisingly hardy, bearing a Hardness of 10, 30 HP, and immunity to the spell Shatter. When scanned for magic, it reveals no dweomer. When scanned for Psionics, it resonates powerfully.
Any sentient Medium sized humanoid/goblinoid donning the Helmet is imbued with a variation of the Psionic skill Invincible Foes. The wearer is granted +1 to Initiative, becomes immune to Intimidate or Fear affects, and automatically succeeds against all Mind-affecting abilities both dangerous and benign. These effects end if the Helmet is removed or destroyed.
Essentially, the wearer gains a sense of complete and irrevocable invulnerability, even going as far as to maintain itself in the face of undeniable proof. The dangers of the world are suddenly below him; merely trivialities to be faced without the slightest fear of injury or lasting repercussion. The wearer feels no need for armor, defensive spells, or even hiding; nothing can hurt him, so why bother? The only exception is that the wearer acknowledges it is the Helmet that allows him invincibility and he will behave accordingly with his alignment and personality to guard it from being taken from him, generally allowing him to keep a single favored weapon as well.
The sensation of invulnerability extends beyond physical matters.
If worn for 10 consecutive days, the wearer begins to believe himself immune to social repercussions as well, allowing them to break local or regional laws without fear of authorities.
If worn for 20 consecutive days, the wearer begins to believe himself immune to moral repercussions; he can and will behave in immoral ways without fear of reprisal or punishment. This will affect his Alignment and class standing (as with Clerics and Paladins).
If worn for 1 month consecutively, the wearer begins to believe himself immune to ethical repercussions; he can and will behave in unethical ways against his religion without fear of reprisal from his deity. This will affect his Alignment and class standing (as with Clerics and Paladins).
If worn for 2 months consecutively, the wearer will see himself superior to his deity and behave accordingly. This will affect his Alignment and class standing (as with Clerics and Paladins).
If worn for 3 months consecutively, the effects become permanent even if the Helmet is removed or destroyed. The wearer 'realizes' that he was actually invulnerable all along and no longer needs the 'useless' Helmet.
Any and all of these effects can be undone first by removing or destroying the Helmet, then evoking the psionic power Invincible Foes upon the wearer to make him believe that his enemies are the ones that are invulnerable, thus negating the effects of the Helmet.
