Susan Dirth
========

Background
--------------
Susan Dirth was born in 1925 in New York city. Her mother, Moira Sham, was an Irish immigrant who had moved to the United States to escape her brutal father in 1920. When she arrived, she lived on the streets, stealing what she could to survive. Attempting everything from prostitution to mugging, Moira failed miserably. Her father had left her with deep scars across her face and body due to the beatings that he would give her on a daily basis.

In the summer of 1924, Moira had found her way to a womens shelter of sorts. Moira began cleaning in the House of Pigs, an illegal opium den ran by the Chinaman Mr. Li. In trade for shelter and food, Moira was forced to do favors for Mr. Li's clients, many of whom were affluent persons of power within New York. Many of these favors left Moira more and more a husk of herself.

Late that same summer, Moira was at the market, attempting to purchase some bread to feed herself. She was approached by a well-dressed man who told Moira that she would accompany him to his domocile, and become his maid. Upon arrival outside of New York, Moira was taken aback by the opulence of the mansion she was presented with. It seemed as though the un-named man was hosting a dinner party. Upon entrance, she was confronted by many people wearing robes of the deepest red, and white masks upon their faces. Confused, Moira turned to her benefactor to query as to what was happening, when he forced a handkerchief to her face, filled with chloroform.

When Moira came to, she was naked upon an inverted cross. The only vision she had was of a dais slightly raised above her, with a line of persons in red robes. She tried to scream, but couldn't as one by one, the men had their way with her. As each one finished, they began a chant that she could not understand, and which can only be written as:

"Nog syah'h. Goka goff'nn n'gha!"

After the last chanter was finished, the man that had approcahed Moira in the city came to her. Wearing a red mask, Moira was only able to recognize him by his clothes. Withdrawing a long whip coated in what looked like chards of metal and glass, he began flogging Moira. Before she passed out from the agony, he had his way with her. As they cut Moirea down from the inverted crucifix, she lay in the floor, bleeding and sobbing. Her last conscious memory of that night was every individual in the room rushing forward to beat Moira.

When she once again awoke, she was lying in a gutter in New York again. As she lay there, several nuns passed by, and helped Moira to her feet, clothing her. They then guided her to a small church several blocks down, and took her to the basement where she was bathed, and her wounds tended to. This whole time, Moira did not speak a word... The trauma that had befallen her left her a mute.

Several months later, it was discovered that Moira was pregnant. In a semi-vegetative state, Moira did not move for the entire length of her pregnancy, until the last month. Reports from the Monostary Rose state that on several occassions, Moira, or Lane as the sisters called her, attempted to abort her child with a coathanger.

The night that Susan Dirth was born, a crazed driver crashed his car into the Church, causing a hidden methane pocket in a wall to explode. Fortunately, Moira was giving birth in a hospital several blocks away. Moira died during childbirth.

Susan was given over to the state and placed in an orphanage. The headmistress would frequently beat the girls with broomhandles, and lock them in 2 foot by 2 foot closets for days on end. Susan had very little contact with other people. On her 3rd birthday, Susan was luckily adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Wright. She was taken to a home located in northern New York state where Mr. Wright owned a farm. Unfortunately, a year later, the Wrights were forced into destitution by the stock market crash. Realizing that they could not keep a child, they foced Susan to the streets. During the next four years, Susan was barely able to survive, living like a stray dog on scraps from restaurant trash, and sleeping in sewers. During this time, Susan began having dreams of a great, fanged mouth whispering in an unknown, yet familiar language.

When Susan was 10, she was taken in by a wealthy family who she found her rummaging in their trash. Cleaning her up, Susan was introduced into a world of luxury and high society, as the Carlisles were a very affluent clan in New York. They gave her the name Susan, and taught her the way of being a debutante in New York. Dinner parties, theatre... Everything was given to Susan on a platter.

And continued.......
All was not right, though. Abe Carlisle was a dark and sinister man, and molested Susan on a constant basis. Susan, knowing no other way, hid her shame and gave her father what he wanted. Susan made constant high marks in the schools that her family sent her to, and when she was 18, was sent to Wellesley to study Art.

At Wellesley, Susan was very popular. The nightmares, however continued, even gaining strength as she got older. She hid these dreams, and began reasearching the occult. She discovered many things that appealed to her, and she began practicing dark arts, even guiding some of her closest friends into the darkness with her.

In 1945, after the second Great War, Susan met James Dirth, a decorated pilot who had flown in the Doolittle Raids. They quickly formed a relationship, and by 1946 were married. Hiding her dark secrets from all of those around her, Susan moved with James to Gloucester, Massachussets. James found success as a businessman, and he and Susan began having children. By 1954, they had 6 children.

In 1947, Susan met with others who shared the same evil interests as herself. Susan had been researching the occult, an had made contact with the being that had haunted her dreams for all the years. Referring to itself as Gshan, she began worshipping, in return being promised great riches, fame, and even immortality. Gshan instructed Susan and her new coven to bring sould for it to devous, and gave specific rituals to consecrate the souls to him. By 1950, her Cult of Gshan held over 200 members in Massachussets.

Susan continued to keep up the perfect home life. In 1951, she was elected to the Presidency of the Essex County PTA, an impressed many people with her policies and ideas. Her husband, becoming more and more of a prominent businessman in the transportation field, held more and more dinner parties with potential clients, each being more impressed than the last, not by James, but by Susan.

Behind the curtain, though, Susan was beginning to influence the mind of her first son, Isaiah, whom she set to bring more children into the fold. She was enthroned as the High Priestess of the Cult of Gshan, and sent people out to gather ancient texts that she read about. Several influential people in and around Gloucester joined the Cult, and used their sway to increase Susan's occult library. As Susan began to lose her grip on reality, she grew more and more powerful, understanding more of the powers that lie beyond the wall of ignorance most people spent their lives in.

In 1955, Susan's manuscript that was intended to introduce her children to her ways was leaked and published. The Tutle and the Snake became a decent seller, and Susan despised every minute of it. With the rash of young psychoses that formed from her book, she fell deeper and deeper into madness. The series of kidnappings and sacrifices that she had started the Cult doing increased in severity and frequency. In 1958, she ordered the kidnappings of almost 500 people from all walks of life, including children, vagabonds, and politicians.

In 1957, Susan began a torid affair with one of the Cultists, named Marcus Hamilton. After a rite performed that spring involving things that must not be mentioned, Marcus and Susan began meeting once a week. Susan named Marcus as the Priest Council, and no one ever was the wiser. During their three year afair, Susan became pregnant 4 times, each time having a miscarriage. The affair ended when Marcus saw that Susan's thirst for power would never be saked. He broke the whole thing off, and Susan was furious, attempting several times to coerce the Cult into kidnapping Marcus for sacrifice.

1960 marked the end of Susan's Priesthood. Usurped in a bloody bid for power, Susan stumbled home, her mind finally shattered, the spells she had loosed finally taking their toll on her fragile mind. Her family sleeping, she went to the kitchen and picked up a butcher knife. With dark intentions in her thoughts, she systematically murdered her husband, and their children by cutting their throats ear to ear. Susan Dirth brutally murdered her entire family save one... Isaiah.

Moving to the living room, Susan arranged their bodies according to an ancient rite, and disembowled them, creating a pyramid of entrails in the middle of the floor. On it, she placed a small bas-relief sculpture of Gshan, and began performing the ancient path, attempting to create a door from this world to Gshan, so that he may wreak his havok on Earth.

The usurpers of the priesthood, knowing of Susan's plans, alerted the police. As they entered the house, Susan, coursing with the slightest of power from Gshan, attacked them with the very butcher knife that she had killed her family with. Before the officers had a chance to fire a single round, two of their number lie dead. Before they were finished, another officer was murdered, and Susan Dirth's body was riddled with 20 bullet holes. Susan Dirth died.

A large ceremony was held for the rest of the Dirth family. Susan, unfortunately, was cremated in a cheap pine box, and, due to the string-pulling of the new High Priest, was dumped into the sewers of New York city. Upon this being done, the Priest, one Marcus Hamilton (who, incidentally was later named to the Supreme Court), said, "From where the b*&%$ came from, to there she will return. Rest in the s^$% that you made for yourself, Susan." After saying this, Hamilton turned and rested his hand on the shoulder of Isaiah Dirth, staring at the boy before moving past, Isaiah turning to follow.
