Earthbrand:, +2 Bonus
This weapon is made from the living rock of the Elemental Plane of Earth. The weapon can take any melee weapon form but is most often found as a bludgeoning instrument. Living earth weapons deal an additional +1d6 to melee damage when striking, as the amorphous stone increases its own density when it hits a target. In addition, the weapon grants the Improved Sunder feat to the wielder due to its massive density.

Earthcrusher:, +3 Bonus
This weapon is made from the living rock of the Elemental Plane of Earth. The weapon can take any melee weapon form but is most often found as a bludgeoning instrument. Living earth weapons deal an additional +1d6 to melee damage when striking, as the amorphous stone increases its own density when it hits a target. In addition, the wielder can cause the impact of this weapon to create a violent sonic resonance within its target, up to three times per day as a free action upon impact. This effect acts as a Stunning Fist ability (Fort save DC equal to the damage dealt by the weapon).

Living Earth:, +5 Bonus
This weapon is made from the living rock of the Elemental Plane of Earth. The weapon can take any melee weapon form but is most often found as a bludgeoning instrument. Living earth weapons deal an additional +2d6 to melee damage when striking, as the amorphous stone increases its own density when it hits a target. In addition, when wielded, the weapon attains a degree of symbiosis with its owner, encasing him in thin, protective layer of living earth that increases his natural armor class by 2 and gives him damage reduction: 3/all. This living armor adds no armor check or arcane spell failure penalty, and thus is often sought out by wizards and sorcerers (living earth quarterstaves, perhaps?) for added defense.

very nicely done - I do like the idea of living earth quarter staves though I would probably knock the bonus down to +4

So how are they constructed?

The idea behind their construction is similar to the origin of Ioun stones. For those who don't know, Ioun stones "grow" like bulbs from certain "plants" on the Elemental Plane or Earth, although these "plants" are made of solid, living earth. The stones, grown in secret gardens often hidden deep below the "surface" of the Elemental Plane (usually near volcanically active rifts and lakes of magma), are jealously protected by massive crystal guardians who are the caretakers of the plants (think elemental gardeners) as well as being extremely deadly opponents.

The "living earth" used in the construction of these elemental weapons is also similarly "plant-like" in its origins. Massive forests of seemingly petrified trees (but are not actually petrified; they grow like normal trees) exist all across the Plane of Earth, and the "wood" from these trees is what is used for living earth weapons. Typically it requires a spellcaster to use various earth moving and shaping spells to harvest some of the living earth and bring it back to the Prime Material, where it can be worked into a weapon of some type. Typically the weapons are forged by dwarven craftsmen who have a natural affinity for stonework.

As this "wood" is actually made from stone, it has the hardness of steel when refined, and can be used for any weapon type. To work it into the shape of a weapon, the stone must be heated to extremely high temperatures in order to change it to a somewhat molten state. Because of the temperature requirement, attempting to craft a living earth weapon requires an extremely high quality smithy and tools, and thus can not be crafted by common weaponsmiths. In addition, due to the fact that it is relatively un-malleable, it's much easier to forge blunt weapons with it due to the simplicity of their design as opposed to a blade.

Thanks for that - it actually gives a bit of background and some game ideas where you may need a party to harvest certain components.

Added another small blurb about its properties when being crafted into weapons.
