Rasp [Earth]
Necromancy

Level: Clr 1, Destruction 1, Earth 1

Components: V, S

Casting Time: 1 standard action

Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)

Target: One Creature

Duration: Instantaneous

Saving Throw: Will negates

Spell Resistance: Yes

From the Evil Elemental Earth Plane you have learned to channel negative energy that deals 1 point of damage. Each Level of caster adds +1 points of damage (maximum +5). Creatures with the type or subtype of [Earth], Undead are not harmed by Rasp but instead are cured of a like amount of damage.

Rasp, definition: to coarsely grind or scrape a surface.

I do not see how it applies to this spell . . .

Also, I do not understand how the spell works. It has a 1 min/level duration, an immense range and does damage. How? Do you target someone or thing and keep damaging them? If so, the duration makes this absurdly over powered.

Thank for the raspy critique.

"I do not see how it applies to this spell . . ."

Tis more of a flavor thing, something beyond number crunching ya know. It is a necromantic type of spell because it causes damage but also derived from the earthy plane.

"Also, I do not understand how the spell works. It has a 1 min/level duration, an immense range and does damage. How? Do you target someone or thing and keep damaging them? If so, the duration makes this absurdly over powered."

I made a mistake and forgot to change the duration to Instantaneous rather than the original 1 min/level from my spell template I often use for quick spell builds.

Please forgive my hurried posting and not noticing the offensive duration. I have made the appropriate changes and hopefully the change will satisfy you.

You could give your spells some "flavor text", like in the Spell Compendium, showing the effect of the spell.

If it is not continuing damage, I would suggest:

1) Up it to 1d4 + 1 / Caster level (maximum +5)

2) Make the save Will (Half)
