The morning mists dance in the sunlight at the gates to Dennish, the wind playing the part as partner to the wisps and their traditional movements. There is quiet throughout the village, as the adventurer’s make ready, sheathing weapons, checking their mounts and saying good bye to friends. Not even the sounds of the smiths can be heard.
The people have gathered, and each has a look of hope and peace on their faces.
Suddenly, their heads all bow in unison as a voice softly floats into the air, and from the center of the gathering walks a dwarf, her garb that of a druid. She raises her hands as she sings, and instruments slowly join her from seemingly nowhere. The people hum softly, giving her words an almost physical form. The clouds above even still for her voice. If one were to look to the farthest reaches of the crowd, one could see several women, dancing together in very specific, yet fluid movements, like in a trance. Scimitars are wielded by each, and their display depicts story, so old that few can remember it, and you are not even sure what the story is about. But it captivates you a moment, making you feel at ease and in peace.
As the song finishes, she nods to the leaving heroes and clasps her hands together in prayer.

“Althalous takes care of those who take care of her. Remember that, and you will be forever remembered by the trees and wind...”

The road is busy as you travel south, many a wagon and pilgrim wandering it. Many wave to you, but don’t really stop to talk. It will take four days to reach the site of the building of the citadel, but there is a small inn about a two days journey, according to Narson, who says it has fine meals, a dry bed, but not the greatest ale. He is humming a tune and strumming his lyre, passing the time away while his eyes wander over each party member, then to their heading, then to the sky. Every once and a while he seems to raise his eyebrows, as if some understanding has befallen him, but then he shrugs and keeps humming.

After a good nights sleep at the inn, I awake at daybreak to bath and clean my beard. I braid my beard into three long braids in order that it will not get in the way during any fights that may come. I put on my leather armor and attach my sheathed short sword and dagger on my belt. I leave my room at the inn and walk outside to watch the ceremonies being preformed. With all these people gathered I have the strong urge to pickpocket them while they are distracted by the goings on but I remember the reward from this little mission and I think better of possibly messing this up. I find Narson, Soolee and the strange little monk in the crowd as we await our departure.

Soolee enters the temple prayerfully. As the sun comes over the horizon Soolee Praises the one she serves. She asks for his strength courage and guidance. She leaves a silver piece and leaves knowing she does not have time to tarry. She arrives to the town square and seeing Magasark she hails to him and then joins him saying cheerfully, “A glorious day to you Friend” She sees the others and gets ready to hail just as a hush comes over crowd. She is in awe of what she sees. A peace embraces the Paladin.

OOC: I'm taller than you!! :D

As the first rays seep into the windows of the Sun's dawn inn, I awake almost instantly and wide awake as the light glances my face. I always enjoyed having a precise body clock as I was terrible at judging time by stars or sun. With a skip in my step, quickly grabbing my things I rush downstairs and outside with a kind word blurted out to the innkeeper as I zoom out the door. Determined to bond with my party, as I see one by one they draw together in the crowd I step over and introduce myself properly. "Good day friends, I hope the world is treating you well, its a long road ahead and I'm sure we'll easily bring peace to Raythene once again. My name is Tharwin but if you'd seen me run you would be calling me "thunderfoot" *smiles* Shall we set off? I say as I tack up my horse and engage in smalltalk with Narson...Well these folk dont seem so bad in the morning light :)

After a day on the road, still raring for adventure I object to staying at the Inn overnight. Stopping briefly to give the horses a rest and to resupply before heading on is the plan I have in mind. I mention it to Narson then to the rest of the group, eagerly awaiting their reply...

Narson smiles to the group as they travel answering any questions they partake of him. He does inform them that his mount carries enough supplies to reach the inn, so they have not to worry.
The first two days travel are peaceful, people traveling along the road and a few merchants show their wares alongside in their carts. nothing of interest though. The evening of the second day brings a chill in the air, yet there is a building around the bend, several lights on, and the sound of music coming from the bottom floor. As you pull up closer a halfling comes from the doorway and greets you.

"Hail and welcome to the Daylight's Rest Inn. We have a few rooms left available, and supper is just being served. Please let us treat you to our fine food, good music and comfortable beds."

He looks over to Narson, then shakes his head and smiles.

"You've come to pay your tab then Flimmellip?"

The gnome winks and starts rolling a coin between his knuckles.

"And here I thought my talents covered a drink meal and rest?"

Narson flicks the coin to the halfling, who catches it and nods, heading back to the inside of the building. When he returns he smiles and looks to all.

"It seems that your companion is well known in these parts, your rooms are all ready, and I shall tend to the horses with the up most care."

Narson dismounts and looks to the group.

"hurry up now, I want to see who is performing. and if there is anything to learn.."

He skips off into the inn, not waiting for the others.

You can see me blush ever so gently behind my beard as I escort the fair Soolee to a table. We sit and I immediatly call over one of the waitresses.

A halfling waitress comes to the table, "A flagon of ale my young lass," I say.

Once I have placed my order, I try to listen in on the conversations going on over the music to try and find out anything more about this unknown monument.

I take Soolee's arm with a playful chuckle and lead her with magasark into the inn. After seating ourselves at a table, I figure this is a nice enough place and I second the order of alcohol. "Your cheapest and weakest beer please m'lady and some bread if you have any" Turning to Soolee "What are your thoughts on this place for the night? It seems nice enough although nothing beats the open air" I glance around the Inn for Narson although I find Soolee quite encaptivating...

Narson smiles as he raises a glass, watching the entertainment, involving an elf dancing to the beat of some drums played by dwarf, and a flute being played by an elf. The inside of the place is small yet cozy, arranged in a sort of horse shoe pattern so all the patrons can see the entertainment in the center. There is a fireplace in three walls, and the stairs leading to the second floor are next to the bar itself. There is Halfling behind the bar, getting the serving maidens their orders, and the sounds of pots and pans scuffling can occasionally be heard in the back. Each one of you is brought your order, and the fee for staying in the inn is 1 sp, for they have made quite a large profit in the last year, as their story goes by the serving maiden. She giggles and winks to Narson and bows, mumbling no charge for his bedroom. Narson smiles and looks to the group.

"Well, a nice rest here should do us the world of good before we reach Grunsk, citadel of the Orcs, or well, its foundation anyways. They are still constructing it, finally getting the go ahead from the City of Faith, and who knew they would come across such a strange monument to who knows what..Still, it is an adventure worth tagging along for, that's for sure."

He pulls a gold coin from his pocket and begins to roll it along his knuckles, as if lost in thought.

Soolee:

You notice that many of the patrons seem to be talking of heading to the citadel for contract work, and that they would rather be hunting or fishing. There are a few stout dwarves loaded to bear with weaponry, but they have the look of guards to them. You sense no evil here, but there is a lingering cold coming from the south most corner, where a kobold sits, staring blankly into the fireplace.

I smile at Soolee's calm voice
"It is good to see you are so vigilent Miss Catori, things can catch you offguard when your mind begins to wander, which is why I drink the weakest beers. A strong ale clouds the mind and gives your adversaries the upper hand even before you throw the first punch, but don't worry, I say with a wink I'm too fast for them :). And after we have dined I would relish a sparring partner, who knows maybe I could learn something new"

turning to Narson
"Can't say I've ever had time for the single minded nature of orcs, its always about 'War' and 'having the biggest muscles', I know and respect a few civilised orcs but those that have reverted to savagry are so slow aand always seem angry!" The scent of hot apples is mouth watering as it wafts from soolee's mug and although normally not one for temptation I give in and order a mugful, smiling greatly as it arrives...

"What is the City of Faith?" I ask Narson
"and what is the temperment of Grunsk in relation to outside adventurers?"

Gazing around I notice the Kobold in the corner, I begin to wonder why that, although he sits so close to a roaring fire, his expression is so cold...I nudge magasark and nod at the lonely figure

Watching and saying alert, Soolee causally says to Tharwin, "My mother taught me to snap at quick judgment. I truly have come to understand that in my five month Walk-About Tharwin.' The Paladin also sees a Kobold sitting alone. She looks at her companion and says, "Excuse me, Gents." She picks up her mug and slowly saunters over to him. She stands in front of him and clears her throat saying, "Will you come and join us, jovial one? If not, may I join you for a bit?"</span>

I continue to glance around the room until my attention is directed to the Kobold in the corner by Thunderfoot. I begin to focus my attention on him to see if he is doing anything out of the ordinary.

You notice that the kobold is slightly rocking back and forth, his eye glued to the flames from the fireplace. You can't quite make it out, but he seems to be mumbling something.

Soolee:

You walk over to the kobold, who you can make out is rocking back and forth, mumbling. As you near him, he does not look in your direction, but continues to gaze into the flames. You can make out several words in Draconic (ooc: I checked, you know the language, well played)

"So cold, so damp, where the swords lay do not make camp..."

The kobold repeats this over and over again, and does not acknowledge anyone talking to him. He does not even turn his head.

Tharwin:

Narson stretches and raises an eyebrow when inquire about the City of Faith.

"Well, I guess an individual such as yourself, cloistered away for so long may not have heard of it. The City of Faith was the first great City built upon Althalous. It is home to The major races and their religious head quarters. Its founding was after the Symposium of races, and it is a pinnacle of architecture, religion, philosophy and artisan ship. I have yet to travel there, as it is far to the northwest of Dennish, but still, I may end up in the town centers there entertaining for a gold or two."

Narson smiles and stands up, nodding to all.

"I must be off for a good night's rest."

He walks over to the bartender, who hands him a key and nods.

Soolee watches the Kolbold who seems to be in a trance. The foreboding repetitive words send a cold chill down the little Elf’s spine. She fees there was a recent battle not far from where they are and many lives were lost. The Paladin bows her head and prays for the fallen and their loved ones. She prays for the Kolbold as well. She turns around and returns to her friends with a concerned look on her face. The heart of the warrior beats with the thought of impending battle. Taking a sip of her cider while she stands she looks at her friends and her silver eyes glowing it seems she says in a commanding voice, "Gentlemen I feel in my spirit we will be running into some sort of confrontation in the morrow. We need to get as much rest as possible.” Soolee lowers her voice and in a concerned tone she says, “Either that Kolbold saw something or is having a vision because he kept saying in draconic <span style="color:#cc6600">"So cold, so damp, where the swords lay do not make camp..." The young warrior reaches in her small money pouch and gets a silver piece out and laysit on the table for the waitress. She finishes the cider and sets the cup down and then gets her backpack and gently squeezes Magasark’s shoulder. Soolee then whispers in Tharwin’s ear, “I am going to pray now Sir Tharwin and I would appreciate it if you come with me.” Soolee looks at the dwarf and says “you are welcome to join in prayer. Oh do me a favor my handsome escort and remind me to tell Narson what the Kolbold said.” Soolee heads out into the cold damp night.</span>

The morning breaks, and Narson can be found downstairs, eating a hearty breakfast of fruit and berries with a thin cream over them. He invites all to join him, and the serving maidens bring them each some of the same. After a cup of tree wort tea, he smiles and looks to the group.

"Well, we got two days left to travel, and I believe there is only a few rest camps along the way. We should begin now to make the most time..."

He looks to them all and wanders out to the road, whistling a tune.

As evening descends upon the third day, your journeys take you to a small rest stop across from a strange sight indeed. Across the road is a clearing, where there is silence. Embedded into the ground are countless swords and axes, and the smell of death hangs in the air like a mist. Narson sees this and raises an eyebrow.

"hrm, this is an odd sort of memorial. Still, I doubt there will be anything to bother us as we make camp."

"Here deary, this will settle your nerves. As for your injuries, let me take a look."

He examines the wounds then nods to himself. He looks over at Tharwin and notes the same type of injuries.

"Both of you come here. Straight to bed, I will tend to you and you should feel a little better in the morning. Magasark, please keep watch for the evening."

The rest of the morning consists of tea and rations, while Narson makes sure everyone is able to travel without difficulty. Soon you are on the road again, and the final few days travel pass without incident.

Upon the mid morning of the fourth day, you can see black smoke coming from ahead. As you crest a hill, you look down upon a valley, where you can see black stone arches reaching high into the air, the sounds of steel on stone, and steel on steel. There are thousands of tents pitched to the right of the monolithic stones being erected, and the sounds of grunts, smithy's and drills can be heard as you approach. Once down the hill you can see two sentry's at a make shift out post. Their orcish heritage is true, and they are built like stone blocks. Each wields a halberd and has a great axe strapped to their back, while wearing chain shirts that have seen better days. The one of the left looks to you all.

"Such a friendly welcome, and here I thought we would be greeted with axes, swords and a howl of rage. Ah well, let us find out what strange properties this monument has..."

As you walk along the central road, you can take in the sights and smells of orcish culture. There are several smithy's building large amounts of spears and armor, a few fletcher's crafting arrows and bows. There are several smoke houses curing meat, and a tannery working on leather outfits. But what you see most is the amount of orc wearing only loin clothes, moving heavy boulders around the encampment, creating the outer walls of what will look like a completely enclosed fortress city. You notice several dwarves in one location in the bustling citadel, and they are conversing with two orcs while looking at large pieces of paper.
The hut that the guard referred to is down past most of the shops and off to the side, and from the design, the walls that are being built will convene here as the focal point, strengthening the defensive power should an attack come from behind. There is the smell of hickory coming from the chimney, and there are two rather large guards holding orc double axes on each side of the door. Both seem to be missing their right eye. As you move towards them their blades flash from the sunlight and come together with lightning speed, forming a barrier to the door.

"You're business here, quickly and clearly."

Soolee bristles a little when she hears Narson mention the monument. She stops to adjust her gear and says to her companions in a calm soft but commanding voice, “I take it Narson, you have never done recon. Gentlemen do not mention the monument in front of the Chief to anyone else until we get a feel of this place. Understand?”

They continue through the streets and Soolee casually observes her surrounding, or at least it is appears that way. The young warrior is on high alert, actually, getting with her new environment.

Once her little group arrives at the hut of the Chief, Soolee moves forward as it she were in commad and standing regal and tall she speaks with a voice of authority to the orc gaurds, " Could one of you mighty warriors Tell your honorable leader that the Lady Sooleawa Catori is out side his home and needs to speak with him now."

"You have no right to ask for council with our glorious chieftain. Begone else we will rid the world of one more elf...."

Narson moves quickly in front of Soolee, to ensure her sword is not drawn.

"Now we have traveled from afar to investigate some serious allegations of the orcish empire trying to start war here on Raythene. Now my associates and I are here on official business from the City of Faith, and as you can tell from our backgrounds, more than one lord is concerned."

Narson opens his vest and shows something to the orc, and the orc's eye widens.

"You know what this is don't you, and you know what I have authority to do here...."

Narson raises an eyebrow and folds his arms across his chest. The orc nods silently and looks to the other orc.
The two bow to the gnome and stand aside, shouting something in orc into the hut.

Narson looks to the group, then to Soolee and winks.

"After you my Lady...."

As you all enter the room, you immediately notice that this room is adorned with the vestiges of an individual of significant power and influence. There are weapons and armors of various sizes, shapes and designs along one wall, along another skulls of various creatures and humanoids. There is artwork lining another wall, the one behind the throne made from animal bones and humanoid skulls. On it sits a rather large orc, cloaked in animal skins, his thick neck covered with a chain holding a blue gemstone. He has a great sword across his lap, and his left hand is tracing lines along the handle. There is another orc beside him, holding some papers, and looking like a seasoned warrior in his armor. A falchion is strapped to his side.
The orc sitting looks to you all and takes a deep breath.

"You are either very strong or very clever to get in here without a scratch. Why have you come to the citadel of Grunsk? Do you seek fame by besting our warriors? Or have you come to learn the true warrior's path?"

The chieftain leans back and awaits a response, his fingers now lightly gripping the handle of the great blade.

Magasark:

You start down the corridor, and find no traps to speak of. Just the same runes along side several of the walls. An occasional tapestry rotted beyond repair clings lifelessly to the wall every so often. You travel about 15 feet, noting there is a slight descent to the hallway, when you reach a turn to the right. Continuing down there for another 25 feet, you again turn to the left, and see before you a large corridor, with little alcoves every 9 feet. With your darkvision, you can't make out the end of the corridor. When you reach the end of the corridor, you can travel left or right. Right you can see a door 10 feet ahead of you, then more hallway. Left, you can see the corridor veers right after ten feet.

Fifteen feet away is a wooden door. It is of finely polished oak, and though it shows some aging, it is still intact. There is a simple symbol of an open book engraved upon it. The corridor continues left again past the door.

"From that symbol, my guess would be that this is some sort of library," I say as I approach the door to check it for traps and to check the lock.

You can tell the door is solid, and locked tightly, but with the proper tools, the door can be opened easily enough. You also do not find and traps.

Seeing that the door is locked, I go to work on the door but I do not open it...I leave that for one of the more rested travelers. I also ready my crossbow for anything that could be waiting for us on the other side of the door.

As magasark steps to the side, I move forward and brace the door, preparing to break it down. Taking a half step back, I slam my shoulder hard into the center of the wood.

Magasark:

You manage to unlock the door with relative ease, even with the monk smacking against it.

Tharwin:

You note that you managed to splintered the wood the second time you thrust into door, but you notice that the dwarf has unlocked it rather quickly.

With a perplexed look on my face, because I am still not sure why the monk was jumping into the door repeatedly, I say "It seems to be unlocked now, you are more than welcome to just open it." I step back from the door, slipping my lock-picking tools into my pack and readying my crossbow.

Quickly realising that magasark has unlocked the door, I feel a little embarrassed and open it the normal way. "sorry dwarf, I just have a rather impatient nature, your skill is very formidable and I admire that"

I move through the doorway to inspect the next room, fists clenched.

Stepping over the pile of bones to enter the library, I say to the monk "You almost took a big nap right then."

I begin to look around the shelves within the room to try to find anything of interest.

You manage to peruse the books, finding nothing of value, just old books on traveling and where to stay. One leather bound book actually is empty, but holds a moonstone within the carved out space where pages once were. Also, under a desk holding oil for lamps, you find a small chest, that when touched springs open and reveals gold coins ((128 of them)).

You see no other doors in the room, so you may either backtrack to near the first battle location and scout out that hallway, or, take the hallway along the outside of this room.

"You're right dwarf, I reckon I'm going to take things a little light footed from now on. We don't want any more bags of bones sending me to an early grave!" With a chuckle I nod and pocket the coin in my pouch then walk back to the doorway and look around...

"hmm where to...where to...I say we keep heading down this corridor then if we feel like its a way down, we'll backtrack and check the other corridor. How does that sound?" I say feeling quite drained...

"That sounds good, lets see where this hallway takes us...we may end up finding the source of the heat in the room with the beds." Magasark begins moveing down the hallway at the front of the group with my crossbow at the ready.

the party heads along the corridor about twenty feet, when it makes a turn to the right. This hallway is covered in dust and cobwebs, and has seen little to no use when this place was "alive". You feel a gently downward slide as you walk for quite sometime, your footsteps echoing in the silence of the corridor. After a few minutes, the path turns to the right once more. fifteen feet ahead of you is a simple wooden door, no carvings or anything on it, and it looks in remarkably good shape.
