So I recently finished reading this, and I must say, I enjoyed it. I've played Star Wars since the old WEG d6 days, including the original and revised d20 versions.

Firstly, I absolutely love the skill system. They completely did away with skill points, instead letting characters choose skills that they are "Trained" in. These trained skills allow the character to add +5 to their skill rolls. In addition, they revamped the skill roll itself. Now, you roll a d20, add half your character level, and any other bonuses (in addition to the +5 from the trained skills). I absolutely love the half character level bonus. That, in my opinion, makes the game for me. It reduces book keeping by quite a bit, and still allows the characters to naturally progress in abilities.

They knocked some of the pointless classes away, leaving only the core of the Star Wars universe- Jedi, Noble, Scout, Scoundrel, and Soldier. They also redid how the characters advance in abilities, going with the trees that are similar to d20 Modern. This allows for a greater variety of character customization, as far as I'm concerned.

The book size itself is another selling point for me, but a point of contention for a lot of others, so I've heard. Instead of being the standard, what 8x11? This is 9x9, presenting a more square appearance, which suits me just fine. It takes up less room. I would have liked some more color on the covers, rather than just gold and black, but I'm not one to nitpick.

Back to rules stuff. All of the Jedi skills are now controlled by one skill -Use the Force. This is neat, and I think it allows for a lot more freedom of what one can do with the Force. You have a set4 of Force Powers that you choose from, and also a set of Force Talents. All in all, it's a bit too much to go into right here, but the way that they redid the jedi and force-users in general, I like.

All in all, I totally dig this book. It's got a lot of meat to it, and yet, it seems a lot more simplified than the old d20. I like the direction that they've taken the d20 system. SWSE is apparently a testing ground for some of the rules for 4e D&D, and if that's the case, I'm totally on board.

Apologies for the rant. Anyhow, the point of the thread, what does anyone else think about the game?

I have liked what I've heard.I haven't played the revised version your speaking of,but I have played the d6 [loved it] and the first d20 ed [not so fond of it].But I like the changes you have mentioned.Especially the use the force skill and the weeding out the needless classes.

They did some similiar things with Shadowrun by its 4rth ed since its first ed.Sounds to me like you would enjoy it too, check it out sometime.

My favorite bit of advice was from the starwars tutorial...the bounty hunter gives combat training advice such as,"Don't get hit!" LOL,whacky bounty hunters,I'm nigh invulnerable the only thing that even come close [but came a bit too close ] to punching my ticket was the towers death rays.I think Lithuse was raging against his inner desire to be a good man.He tried to destroy me becaue I bring out the best in people, and attempting to kill me was sadly his "good-side".
