Many traps which you build are done 'on the fly'and are inherently dangerous. In favour of maximising damage you penalise the reliability of the trap.
Prerequisites: 4 ranks in Craft (trap Building), 4 ranks in Disable Device
Benefits: Any trap which inflicts damage made by the character with this feat does two extra dice of damage (the die relates to what is used to calculate the traps damage). Though when constructing the trap the character has a -4 penality to actually making it a working model. This does not include pit traps.. unless they are lined with stakes - the stakes themselves would have been prepared then in a specific and sadistic fashion.
