View Full Version : Yay! I exist!

I pull up a Floating Disk spell and sit on it. :wizard:
Greetings all! I now exist!
I'm definitely looking forward to getting some more roleplaying experience here; anyone have suggestions for what would be useful to a roleplaying newbie?
Anyway, I've played DnD for about half a year now, but I'm still fairly new to it. As you'll soon realize, I have a strong bias for magic-based characters... *thinks about characters* Wait, do I even have a non-magical character? I don't think I do, even my historian character is a fighter/wizard multiclass, my ranger has all sorts of spell-like abilities, and that prophet guy I used years ago seems to have teleport at will... Meh. Arcaneness for the win! Expect to get into weird philosophical discussions about the nature of consciousness/magic if you talk with me for long enough.
In character, I'm a quarter-elven wizard currently studying magic at the school of magic on the island of Thera. It's on the plane commonly known as Atlantis, though I don't think many people still remember it, considering how it was disconnected from Earth's plane thousands of years ago when that volcano erupted... Anyway, I hope to be able to better deduce the nature of magic by studying the interacting between interplanar forms of magic present in Barrok's Tower, and thus better understand the precise, scientific nature of magic first theorized to be present by Thera's first-- Sorry, am I getting off topic?
:ooc: Yes. Very much so.

Ooooh, a raambler, I like those!
"Ehem, I mean hail, and well met."
I'll be your guide here at the tower, Mind your manners, and never insult the tower, where tin foil hats, or turn in circles to the left. For some reason, the tower's sentience take those things as insults/targeting becons. It like to move the rooms around a lot so be sure to get a decent map. Off to you left you will see a standard stone wall, off to your left, my estranged colleuges......
*cues everyone else to respond...*

Hey, I don't ramble... Well, not that much... not very often... *blinks* That's beside the point!
Anyway, I must be going now. Have to prepare Detect Magic if I want to be able to analyze the magical nature of the tower! Which reminds me, is the room-rearrangement an abjuration? I seem to recall some archwizard using a similar spell to store his book; now I wish I'd brought that tome. *wanders off to meet "estranged colleagues", donning magically glowing tin foil hat on the way*
OOC:
Don't worry, Yaros is really the only character that rambles like that. Anyway, what are some interesting pages I could look at around here?

*A slender Elf enters the room, her cloak billows in a nonexistant wind. The daggers in her belt glow a slight red. On her shoulder sits, what looks to be, a silver squirrel.*
"Welcome to the tower. I'm called Sylvyr. Here you can find all things, from the mundane to the extrodinary. If you are looking for unique Magic I suggest the "creation" sections. There you will find, items, spells, and a multitude of misc. things.
For games...get ready.. the Games section of the board. If you are interested in joining, just PM the GM and see if he / she has a spot for you. There is also a FreeForm (of sorts...I'm not quite sure what it is) starting.
Any question or problems feel free to contact the Gods of the Tower (Admin and Mods) they are a Friendly a Merciful bunch. "
*The silver squirrel chatters at you and a silver nut rolls across the floor and comes to a stop at your feet.*
"That is Chesters way of welcoming you to the Tower. Make yourself comfortable, for the Tower door only swings one way...and that is in. Once in you shall find it impossible to leave."
*With a smile and a wink, the cloak billows again and the Elf is gone.*

The room lighting turns into flashing red and dark, and a siren blares out throughout the tower.
[Target Aquired]
Turrents fall from each of the four corners of the ceiling, each has a set of wands, plasma-Crystal array, and a mini-gun. All turn towards you.
[Locked] [Firing]
ZZZAAAPPP!!! WAWAWAWAWA-ratatatatatatatat---Boom!zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzpkeek!
In the after-math, the room lighting returns to normal, the sirens stop their wailing, and the guns disappear back into the ceiling. All that is left is a partially melted and still offending tin foil hat. With a resounding thud, a column of solid stone falls from the ceiling, landing squarely on the hat, covering it from view.
[Target Neutralized]
Um, don't wear the hat, yeah, that's a bad thing......mmkay?

Gah! This is why English annoys me. I thought you were saying, "(never insult the tower), wear tinfoil hats, or turn in circles to the left"... So I assume the "never" applied to all three? *sigh* I wish language was more like math. *picks up ruined tinfoil hat, casts a spell* *dons silicon-foil hat* I hope the tower doesn't mind these?
*picks up silver acorn* Yay, an acorn! Thanks for the advise... I hope the local deities are saner than the ones on the last plane I was at? Some demigod decided to teleport in and go on and on about how obsessed he is with fire...
*casts detect magic targeted at the Tower itself* *blink* *blink* ...Should have guessed there'd be an overwhelming aura.

*skins an apple with a dagger that seems to still be dripping with blood, and lets the skin fall to the ground. Several magical auras radiate not from him, but around him, perhaps his daggers, his bracers, and the rapier that hangs from his side*
Hile, traveller. *Tosses him the peeled apple*
I am known as Jades Ditory, scribe (of sorts), and a scholar. I've written up some information on a plane I recently discovered, though I translated a few things wrong, mostly in the years, they change reference points frequently there. That can be found in the Homebrew library.
I also dabble in other worlds, currently the Sordestaal interest me. Barbarians who use magic with as much proficiency as they do an axe... very intriguing.
And as for you existing, that is still very much up for debate, I'm afraid. Every one of us here has a far over-active imagination, and due to a rip in the Weave near here, sometimes the figimentations of our imagination *swats at a purple psuedodragon* suffer from a manifestation into our station.
In other words, how do I know that you aren't the product of somebody here slipping farther into insanity?

*The apple stops in midair near my hand*
Yeah, those figments almost always manifest with some illusion/extraplanar magical aura, which you'll notice I don't have. Plus, even if I was, would it make me any less real? *grins*
Be glad a certain demigod I once met isn't here. He'd probably imagine the entire Elemental Plane of Fire into the tower without even noticing.
*The apple skin floats over next to the apple. I concentrate on the apple and the peal, and they slowly wrap back together and merge into an unpealed apple.* I've been practicing this... *bites apple, immediately spits it back out* How did I manage to get the core wrapped around the outside?! Eww. *I continue fiddling with the apple pieces, turning them into a strange-smelling mush in the process before they suddenly burst into flames.* This isn't working. I give up. *walks off to Homebrew Library*

Well it is getting near winter and the heatingf in the tower is on the blink at the moment.. so imagined elemental planes of fire could help the central heating

Yeah, I can't see auras.
And why fiddle with a perfectly good apple like that?

Personally, I'd rather be a little cold than be instantly incinerated by a massive million-degree fireball.

Because it was there! ^_^

If "because it was there" was a half-way decent reason, I would have sto... um... hehe... its just not a good reason. Trust me.

Hullo there arcane-y one.
There's plenty of magic 'round the tower, that's for sure.
For instance, go check out my wondrous items ... and comment on 'em or something ... yes, comment *looks around at poeple* ... hmm.
*gives Yaros a pair of spectacles and wonders if that's the proper way to refer to spectacles* Now, to skip the lenghty casting of an identifying spell, go read about 'em (and a neato demistory) a few floors down, there's a huge wall section with descriptions of magic items and stuff inscribed. Also a library. I think.
Point of all this ... welcome
