View Full Version : Servants of Kord: D&D 3.5e game

It is probably about time...... that I got my finger out and ran something :happy_dance:

So, would there be any interest in this?

Servants of Kord - a group of followers of the deity Kord travel the world (or maybe further) to spread the word. Ruleset: Dungeons & Dragons 3.5. Setting: begins in my home-grown world but inter-planetary portals exist so who knows where you might end up.

While characters need some connection to Kord (as described in the Player's Handbook, you are not required to be a cleric. You just need a good backstory as to why you are so devoted to Kord that you are willing (or have been asked) to join what is basically a missionary group.

Speed: I hope players will look in daily, or at least check wherever they get their e-mail alerts sent to and respond at such a frequency.

Style: I tend to a free-flowing 'rules-light' approach. If you really like rolling dice, you are welcome to do so but I generally expect players to tell me what they want to do & I'll adjudicate the results.

Sounds quite interesting.. tell me more

Certainly - what would you like to know?

The game will open as a new missionary group forms. I'll work with each player on his background, reasons for joining or being asked to join, etc.; and you will all gather in a port town called Seawell from where you are supposed to take ship to Freeport [ooc: As in the Green Ronin setting of that name] which is said to be particularly lawless and in dire need of salvation. You will get to meet each other and... well, that's where the adventure begins.

I generally prefer to start with 1st level characters, but I am open to argument as to why you - or the whole group - should have a level or two more. I don't mind if there is a spread of 2-3 levels across the party, but any more than that can be unbalancing. I prefer arguments based on background - as in "I've done this, this and this to get to this point, surely I have picked up a level in x class doing so" - to more mechanical ones, but I'll listen to anything.

Any more questions?

Anyone else interested?

Can any books be used? And have you pitched this to Skurvy, who is admin of games?

You can use just about any book - I probably have it... If not I can probably get it!

Is this 'Skurvy' around here? Currently waiting to see if more than one person is interested (and that he does not want to play) before saying any more than I am prepared to say publically about the game.

Skurvy turns up occasionally, just to sweep the dust out of the corners. Really, paid cleaner, thats all I am :)

I would be interested in playing too, I prefer playing monks normally but Kord is a little chaotic for that, so maybe a straight up cleric?

OK - are you content with what I have said here or do you need further information? Please feel welcome to ask, but if you want to play - and I'd love for you to do so - I don't want to go into too much plot detail!

I will say this, that there are a multiplicity of directions - all known to me - in which the adventure can go, depending on what catches the players' attention. While I do have pre-planned plotlines, and a lot of stuff going on, it is pretty much a case of "Here is my world and what is going on in it, what would you like to do?"

A cleric would be fine. Or a monk - I know what you mean about Kord being a bit chaotic, but it could be done... if you like playing monks, perhaps Kord has done you or your family a favour in the past and you feel obligated to return it by providing protection to a missionary party.

Hmm I may forego the usual Wizard character I tend to play and go for a Barbarian or Bard (haven't played them since 1st edition AD&D rules)

Hmm probably Bard (with feats from Complete Adventurer or Scoundrel - just to add a luck like finish to him) - what method of rolling them up would you use?

I usually do the 'Roll 4d6 and discard the lowest, allocate as you please' method. I am content to trust you, so don't bother to send rolls from a die roller even if you prefer that to actual dice, just tell me what you come up with!

Do you use the standard Greyhawk/D&D Gods? I wouldn't mind trying to fiddle with a monk's background and give him a reason to be around. I will work something up.

By the way, the setting sounds fine. We want to try and boost up games to get the place swinging again and your campaign sounds ideal (you can only have so many FR games after all).

You will be beginning in an area where the Player's Handbook deities are worshipped.

It is extremely likely that you will meet others as the game progresses. Religion can be so amusing from this side of the DM Screen!!!!

I'm glad you like the sound of what I am up to. Actually it is only in the past few years that I have discovered the published worlds, most of my role-playing career has been one set of core rulebooks and a lot of imagination!

I will be happy to have you as and when you can participate. Just try & keep in touch regarding when you will be available and I shall mutate the plotline to accommodate you.

Thank you for your service.

Everyone: please feel welcome to start on your characters.

Er, may I have a corner in which they may be put, please?

I have now begun... Please pop over and start talking and thinking about your character.

But I need a bit of help. Er, how do I set up another sub-forum (I want one for Background Information as a kind of reference section)? And how do I delete a post? (The one headed Background, which was me playing around trying to find out how to set up a sub-forum). The assistance of those more familiar with Invision would be appreciated!

Start thinking about a character...

3.5e ruleset, don't really mind what books you use as long as you reference them, basic start is 1st level but I will listen to special pleading for a level or so more, all you need is some reason to be involved in a missionary expedition on behalf of the deity Kord.

So far no characters have been submitted so you have free reign within the parameters set - i.e. must have some in character reason to want to (or be asked to) participate in missionary work on behalf of Kord.

Hey Mexal long time, Do you by chance still have a copy of my original charactor from the first time? I would love to convert him over and join you, if not I can come up with something else if you still have room.

PS I'm still sitting on 3.0, guess I need to dig up my 3.5 pdf and see what has changed.
