Dark Buckler of the Assassin:
This small shield is a deadly magical weapon. It appears as a small metal buckler made of blackened steel. The buckler is surprisingly lightweight. There are thirteen studs situated at even intervals around the outside edge of the buckler, and one large stud in the middle. There are several buttons on the inside of the buckler. If magic is detected for it will radiate moderate enchantment.
The shield is a Buckler +2, with no armor check penalties. In addition to that it has several other functions.
The 13 studs around the outside of the buckler may be fired at foes. Each of these studs do damage as a sling bullet. Up to 3 can be fired each round. (These studs can be made and replaced at a cost of 5sp each)
The stud in the center of the buckler can be extended in to a one foot long spike. This does 1d6 (+ STR) piercing damage on a successful shield bash hit.
There are extremely sharp blades folded along the inside of the buckler that can be extended along the edges. This does 1d6 (+ STR) slashing damage on a shield bash attack.
The Buckler can cast “Darkness” 3 times a day (at 9th level of ability)
The Buckler can cast “Death Knell” once per day
Minor Necromancy, Minor Evocation, Craft Magical Arms and Armor, CL9th, “Darkness”, “Death Knell”, Expensive manufacture costs, Cost: 17,500gp
These bucklers are produced by the Assassins guild known as the Midnight Blades. They are given only to higher ranking individuals who have proven themselves to their fellow guild mates. The buckler is a kind of trophy to the members of the guild, and a symbol of accomplishment and respect. They are never seen outside of guild member’s hands, or if they are, it isn’t for long…
