Flaming Buckler of Hell:
This buckler is an item of great and extremely twisted power. It appears as a normal buckler with the image of a flame burst on its surface. It is made of charred wood, and weighs very little. However despite its construction and materials, the buckler is extremely sturdy, being harder than tempered steel. Inscribed within the interior is the command word. If magic is detected for it will radiate moderate enchantment.
The shield has a +2 bonus to AC. Furthermore if the command word is spoken the shield will enact its special powers:
The shield will wreathe the user is flames much like that of a “Fire Shield” spell except that the flames will affect the user as well if he does not have resistances to it. Damage is 1d6+15 per round. It also serves to half the damage taken from any cold effects the wearer might encounter. The flames last for 15 rounds and cannot be dispelled prematurely.
Moderate Evocation, Minor Transmutation, Craft magical arms and armor, CL15, “Fire Shield”, “Ironwood”, “Permanency”, Cost: 5625gp
These bucklers were made by the cult known as the Servants of the Flame. They manufacture the bucklers for the higher ranking members of the cult. To have one in the cult is a sign of respect. To lose one is a sign of failure and is usually met with a swift death. Needless to say the members of the SOTF are very particular about their bucklers.
