Spell Name: Thistleskin

Transmutation

Level: Drd 3, Rgr 3

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: Personal

Target or Effects or Area: Caster

Duration: 5 minutes per caster level

Saving Throw: None

Spell Resistance: No

By means of this spell the caster is able to cause his body to become covered in a thick coating of wood, thorn, and thistle. This spell is much like the spell “Bark skin” except it grants a +3 natural armor with an additional +1 per 3 levels over 3rd, to a maximum of +6 at 12th level.

In addition to granting an AC bonus, it will also cause a bit of damage to those trying to grapple or hold the caster. Any creature striking the caster unarmed, with natural weapons, or attempting a grapple will take 1d4 points of damage per round. The caster will also cause an additional 2 points of damage with every successful unarmed attack while the spell is in effect.

Material Components: A sprig of thistle harvested with a silver scythe

The only reason that I made it level 3 is becasue Barkskin is a 2nd level druid spell and this spell is mechanically more advantageous than a barkskin spell. It has a shorter duration, but higher overall protection, as well as the potential to damage enemies.

In my mind the reason I said its level 2.. I'll try to explain why...

The spell you have made only effects the caster but it does have some marvellous little powers included in it. Whilst Barkskin is a touch one.. so you can do it on your party fighter to up his AC...

the damage whilst useful at higher levelas is minimal.. therfore I would probably still say 2nd especially as the damage abilitiy has lessened the AC bonus.
