Casters Plate:

This ornate plate armor is as heavy as normal full plate armor. It is black and tooled with various runes of high magic hidden within its ornamental filigree. It comes complete with greaves, gauntlets and a helm. If magic is detected for it will radiate an extremely strong magical power.

The suit of armor is crafted for arcane casters. If any others try and don it they will find that it is very encumbering. They will receive double the armor check penalty. However for an arcane caster the armor will be as light as normal leather armor, allowing ease of movement as well as a greater maximum dexterity bonus. It will protect as well as Full plate +2. The armor has a base 10% chance for arcane spell failure.

This however does not come cheaply. There is a price to be paid. The caster will lose one spell slot of each level that he or she can cast per day. The lost spell slots can be regained by removing the armor, and not wearing it for one full week. Furthermore while wearing the armor the casters spells are cast as if he or she was 3 levels lower in regards to range, damage, duration, saves, etc…

This armor was created by a Great Wizard who tired of being injured on the field of battle. He had become so specialized in spells of destruction that he did not know any spells of defensive nature. This armor was made by him to combat his relative low defensive capabilities. Only one suit was known to have been made, and its whereabouts are unknown.

WOAH!!!! V powerful here make this a lesser arefact as arcane casters in armour which gives +10AC upto +6 Dex bonus and 10% Spell failure is pretty damn nice. If you wanted to up it to greater artefact you could add in some fortification abilities and maybe element resistance.

The benefits of this suit do not come without a cost however. The wearer must make a Will save upon donning the armor (The DC of the save is the same as the characters adjusted armor class after donning the armor). If the character makes the save, then the wearer has the option of removing the suit at any time. If the suit is ever removed, the save will have to be remade.

If the wearer fails the save then the suit cannot be removed except by a limited wish, or other such magic. The suit will cause the wearer to lose 1 spell slot of each level that the character possesses. Additionally any non-damaging spell cast by the wearer will be cast as 3 levels lower in regards to range, duration, area of effect, etc… Spells that actually cause physical damage will be cast as if the caster was 1 level lower in regards to range, duration, area of effect, etc… Additionally the wearer will not be able to learn any spells from the schools of Abjuration or Necromancy as long as the suit is worn (Spells already known from those schools are cast as if the wearer was 5 levels lower). These effects will go away after a period of 1 week of not wearing the suit.

This suit was crafted by the great wizard by the name of Trenton Darkwalker. He was a master invoker and loved nothing more than his magic. He concentrated so much on the damaging aspects of his magical powers that he was usually left utterly defenseless.

He tried to amend this with conventional armor, but the materials and constrictive nature caused him to miscast too many spells. He then turned to magical means, but for some unknown reason he was unable to make magical bracers, rings, etc… with defensive capabilities function for him. (This was actually due to a generational curse that he was unaware of).

He crafted the armor after nearly succumbing to an attack by an undead creature to which he had absolutely no defense against. Had it not been for his magic he would have surely succumbed. Fortunately that was not so, and he began to study and formulate what he needed to craft his greatest masterpiece.

He scoured the world over to find the perfect ingredients and materials for his masterpiece. In its manufacture he used iron from a fallen star in the Granitespire. He also used mithril gained from the realm of Evershadow. Added to that was Adamantite garnered from the dwarves of the Iron Hills. And finally he procured some red iron from a fiend summoned from the outer planes. He bound all the materials together in a secret and highly dangerous ritual calling forth untapped powers of himself, as well as the power of some otherworldly beings. His finished product was the Casters Plate of the Darkwalker.

He used the plate to great effect in his worldly travels. Eventually time caught up with Trenton and he was forced to retire from his adventuring career. He still lived on for several more decades acting as a sage. Finally on his deathbed he bequeathed the armor to his only apprentice, a man named Jerald Rendon.

Jerald used the plate for many years after the death of his master. In his later years of adventuring he became involved in the political affairs of the nation of Falx, and their dealings with their commonwealth Cavalcante.

Jerald was killed a short time later by political assassins. His body was paraded around Falx as an example of what happened to traitors of the crown. His holdings were seized and distributed by the King of Falx to his royal court. However the armor was never found.

The armor unbeknownst to the king and the assassins had been hidden in the temple of Thelil (Goddess of Magic) in the city of Cloudseeker Peak. The temple priests did not even know of its existence. Only the high priestess knew of it. It was put in her charge by Jerald, when he learned of the bounty on his head. He left specific instructions that it be kept until the prophesy of Yor was fulfilled.

Several decades later, the prophesy was indeed filled. Otherworldly entities had come from places unknown and settled in Yor. Among them was a man by the name of Shelton Beckworth. He came to the temple and asked that his birthright be given to him. The priests knew nothing of the birthright. The high priestess met with him, and the armor was given to him in secrecy.

Shelton took the armor. He then ventured to another temple, the Temple of Mischalla in the town of Mission. From there he took the weapon known as the Chain of Sirud Kai, and ventured forth in to the underworld of the lower planes to free the souls of the fallen saints. He succeeded in his quest, but ultimately paid the price with his life.

The Chain of Sirud Kai was later found in the temple of Mischalla where it originally resided. The armor was never seen again however. Where it is or what happened to it is still a mystery. Divinations to find its whereabouts have all failed miserably.

Neat! One question: Are these the same Item, different Items or an item that was turned into another item?

The first post was the original draft, and the second was the finished product.

A nice item, for some casters. Personally, I don't think the benefits come close to outweighing 1/10th of all your spells failing, let alone the other drawbacks.

It's an artifact; it's okay to say it has no chance of arcane spell failure.
