Dream Demons:
These creatures are not in fact demons at all, but rather malicious spirits that delight in the torture that they inflict in their victims. They choose a host and once chosen stick with that particular host until they are driven away, or they or their host dies.
The spirits are insubstantial entities. They dwell mostly on the ethereal plane, but must manifest in order to feed. When they do manifest they appears as extremely small creatures made of utter darkness. They have demonic shape and features and speak in a very rough and whispery voice. In shadows they have the equivalent of 90% Concealment. In bright light they can be plainly seen.
The dream demons have no physical attacks at all. They are as insubstantial in their form and can cause no physical damage to a victim. However they have certain special attacks that may inadvertently damage their host.
The entities feast off the fear that their induced dreams cause. Every night they will manifest to cause these dreams. When they manifest they are able to be attacked normally. They will manifest for a time of 1d6 minutes to feed. After they have satiated themselves they will return to the ethereal plane to wait until the next night. There is a chance that the dreams will actually cause the victim to experience a “Nightmare” as per the spell unless a Will save is made. This chance is 5% per night that the demon feeds, cumulative. (I.e. after 3 nights the chance will increase to 15 %.) Once a “Nightmare” is rolled (Regardless of whether the victim makes the Will save or not) the chances for another “Nightmare” reset to 0%.
The Dream demons are fiercely protective of their hosts. They will grant the host the Alertness feat. They also give the victim a +2 to mind affecting spells cast on them. (This manifests as a whisper warning the victim of danger, or speaking the truth in the case of mind affecting spells).
The origins of the small creatures are unknown, as are their reproduction habits, and society.
