A spell utilizing positive energy to harm or heal. I created this because I think that the idea that arcane spellcasters can't heal at all is foolish. Of course, it's nowhere near as good as a clerical spell of the same level, but hey. It shouldn't be, right?

Positive Energy Ray
Necromancy
Level: Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V,S,M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 25ft + 5ft per level
Target: 1 creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will half
Spell Resistance: Yes

A ray of positive energy projects from the casters pointing finger.

The caster must succeed at a ranged touch attack with the ray to hit their intended target. This ray disrupts the bonds that hold undead bound to the prime material plane and causes damage dependant on the casters level. When cast at first level this damage is a single d6 and it increases by 1d6 for every 2 caster levels to a maximum of 5d6 at 9th level. A living creature struck by this ray is instead healed by 1d6 points for every 5 caster levels to a maximum of 2d6 at 10th level.

The material component for this spell is a mirror which is aimed at the target and then shatters when the spell is cast.

I have a different set of issue about arcane magic and positive energy, but this is not the place to go into it.

The spell looks balanced, but I have a minor change to suggest and a question:

Change, change it to heals 1d4 plus 1d4 per 6th level (maximum 3d4 at 12th). This change clearly makes clerical healing superior even at 1st level.

Why a mirror as the material component? I would think something that represented light or life, such as a candle, would make more sense.
